Reports
The Reports tab pulls together everything you've entered across the app and turns it into charts and summaries you can actually use. There are eight report sub-tabs, each covering a different area of the operation.
Herd report
The Herd report shows how your livestock numbers have changed over time. It answers the question: "Is my herd growing, stable, or going backwards?"
What you'll see:
- Total head count charted over time (monthly or yearly snapshots)
- Breakdown by livestock class — how many cows, calves, yearlings, weaners
- Per-farm breakdown if you run multiple properties
- Mob composition at a point in time
This report draws from the herd audit trail — every time you update a number in the Numbers tab, BlackCow records it, and the Herd report charts those changes.
Financial report
The Financial report summarises your cattle sale revenue. It only includes confirmed sales from the Sales tab.
What you'll see:
- Total net proceeds by year and by month
- Revenue broken down by livestock class — yearling steers vs weaner heifers vs cull cows, etc.
- Average $/head by class, so you can track whether you're getting better or worse prices over time
- Revenue split by farm if you run multiple properties
Tip
The $/head trend is often more useful than total revenue. A big year in terms of total proceeds might just mean you sold more head — the $/head figure tells you whether you actually achieved better prices.
Calving report
The Calving report tracks your calving percentage — the number of calves raised as a percentage of cows joined.
What you'll see:
- Calving percentage by season and year
- A benchmark line at 85% — this is a commonly used target for northern and central Queensland beef herds. Your target may differ depending on your country and breeding system.
- Trend over multiple seasons — is your calving rate improving or declining?
This report draws from your calving records (created at the end of each calving season) and your cow numbers from the Numbers tab.
Note
The 85% benchmark shown on the chart is an industry reference point, not a target set by BlackCow. What's considered a good calving percentage varies significantly by location, breed, season, and management system. Use it as a guide, not a rule.
Marking report
The Marking report summarises your annual marking (branding) seasons. It draws from records entered in the Marking tab.
What you'll see:
- Total calves marked per year
- Steer and heifer totals and percentages
- Year-on-year trend
If you compare the marking totals against your calving records, you get a feel for marking mortality — the calves you had at birth versus the calves that made it through to marking age.
Rainfall report
The Rainfall report gives you a long-term picture of how much rain your property has received. It draws from both your manual rain gauge entries and your connected weather stations.
What you'll see:
- Monthly rainfall totals — how each month compares to the same month in previous years
- Annual totals charted year by year
- Seasonal pattern — which months are reliably wet or dry on your country
- Per-farm breakdowns if your properties have separate rainfall records
Treatment report
The Treatment report helps you stay on top of withholding period (WHP) and export slaughter interval (ESI) obligations after chemical treatments.
What you'll see:
- Active WHP/ESI alerts — cattle that are currently in a withholding period and cannot be sold. These are highlighted prominently so you don't accidentally draft treated animals for sale.
- Treatment history by product — what you've used, how much, on which mobs
- Treatments approaching the end of their WHP/ESI — when they'll be clear to sell
Important
Always check the Treatment report before selling cattle. If any animals are under a WHP or ESI, selling them may be illegal and can result in a residue detection. BlackCow's alerts are a safety net — your primary responsibility is to follow the product label directions.
Land report
The Land report covers everything you've done to the land itself — spraying, fertiliser applications, and known weed patches.
What you'll see:
- Spray events by paddock and product
- Weed patches recorded on the farm map — which weeds, which paddocks
- Fertiliser jobs by paddock — what product, what rate, when it was applied
This is useful for NRM (Natural Resource Management) record-keeping and for planning your chemical program — you can see which paddocks have been treated, when, and with what.
Events report
The Events report is a calendar view of everything that's happened or is scheduled on your farm.
What you'll see:
- Upcoming events for the next 30, 60, or 90 days
- All past events for a selected year
- Events filtered by type — all vet visits, all musters, all spray days
- Frequency summary — how many of each type of event per year
This report is handy for annual planning. Looking at what happened each month last year helps you prepare for the same jobs this year.
